This is just bizarre. Why would you take the skirting board off ? The risk of damage to an old wall is ridiculous, and you have to line up the Mitres and possibly fill those too ! In a lot of old houses, half the bloody wall would have come away with the skirting board, special tool or no. Just drill a start hole above the skirting and poke a fine chisel down behind the Skirting, it creates the same chase you made, the cable just snakes behind and you have no wall damage and minimal filling. Especially as you're only fitting a surface patress anyway ! Fitting a recessed back box can be done this way too. No way would I take the Skirting off in an old house unless there was no other way.

When you break existing ring does the new cable need to be attached in a certain way. Eg does the electricity current come from one direction and exit the room in a different direction on the ring. If so how can you check/test for this?

If you want it not to fall off the first time you tug it: Put it in really hot water. That allows the teeth to sink in around the end and get a much much better grip!!

Do you not need to use peel stop on whole patches as well as edges & what consistency of water/paint for mist coat? I’m using zinser mould resistant paint for primer & top coat so should I mist coat the first coat then use normal for second? Am applying all to plasterboard that is prone to damp.

That is not a reliable way of proving dead, ...you shouldn't be promoting DIY electrical works.

I used Speedfit pipe to replace most of the hidden pipework and all the radiators in my previous house. It was so easy to use and I never had any trouble with it. I sold the house about 7 or 8 years later, everything was still working fine. Going to use it again in current house. 😂

You are a numpty anyone knows you have to fill the bath first when applying sealant because if you don’t when you fill the bath a gap will open up then all your work is a waste of time.🤦‍♂️numpty
